Arup wanted to design and implement a ProjectWise BIM template to be adopted by all building information management projects hosted on ProjectWise in order to create a single source of truth for projects, apply consistent information management processes across diverse projects, and adhere to public standards and processes (such as BS 1192). They also wanted a way to virtually bring together geographically distributed members of project teams, while boost their efficiency, and ensure that they apply consistent CAD standards.
Using ProjectWise, Arup created a project template that standardizes project setup and enables the adoption of BS 1192 processes. Using ProjectWise security features, Arup can apply correct access rights across the entire document management process. With ProjectWise Design Integration, Arup and its external project team members have access to project information around the clock.
Hosting projects on ProjectWise enables global project participation and reduces the need for physical meetings and costly co-location of team members. By using ProjectWise and adopting a BIM project template, Arup has reduced the time and cost of setting up new projects from two to 10 days, to just three hours, saving GBP 1000 or more per project. Arup can also realize the full range of BIM project efficiency gains, which will allow projects to be delivered quicker, cheaper and to a higher engineering standard than traditionally possible. At the same time, they can adhere to BS 1192 standards and processes, improve efficiency, reduce project risks, and easily apply best resources to jobs from anywhere in the world.
Arup deployed ProjectWise to provide external access to project data for all project participants. ProjectWise caching servers were deployed in local offices to improve document transfers. ProjectWise Deliverables Management (formerly Bentley Transmittal Services) enables document access for external, non-ProjectWise users. Bentley i-Model Composition Service automates the production of PDFs, saving a great deal of time.
