ItresE, Buenos Aires, Argentina

In a region where technological innovation often encounters barriers, the partnership between knowledge and trust becomes the main driver for transformation. This is precisely the story of ItresE, an energy consultancy and Bentley knowledge partner, and EDEMSA, one of Argentina’s largest energy distributors, who together brought to life the country’s first 100% digital substation.

Digitizing for the Future

Located in Mendoza, an Argentine region with growing strategic importance for the mining and oil sectors, EDEMSA had a clear mandate: to digitize its infrastructure. The goal was to reduce project time, abandon traditional CAD tools, and adopt a workflow that would allow collaboration among diverse teams and reduce costs and errors.

The challenge, however, was not only technological. There was a common fear in the industry: the risk of investing in sophisticated software that ultimately goes unused. EDEMSA needed more than just a tool; it needed a strategic partner who understood the local reality and would ensure the success of the implementation.

Technology and Trust, Hand in Hand

It was in this scenario that ItresE, with its deep expertise in the Latin American electricity sector and its status as Bentley’s certified training center in the region, emerged as the natural choice. ItresE’s recommendation was clear: the foundation for the digitization of the Palmares substation would be Bentley’s OpenUtilities Substation and ProjectWise solutions.

Energy Infrastructure

“ItresE’s value was closing the gap that exists in the region,” explained Alejandro Donnadieu, Partner Manager Americas from Bentley. “They brought technology to the reality of Latin America. The trust EDEMSA has in ItresE, due to its reputation and many years of prestige, facilitated the decision to move forward with the project.”

ItresE not only provided the software but a complete ecosystem for success: consulting, training, and a support contract to ensure that EDEMSA’s team could extract maximum value from the tools, preventing the technology from becoming a “boxed solution on a shelf.”

Although the project is still evolving, the most impactful result, according to Mariano Schister, Director of ItresE, transcends saving time and money. The greatest achievement was the creation of a truly collaborative ecosystem.

“If you ask me what the most important achievement was, it was that Bentley technology allowed all project stakeholders to be integrated,” stated Schister. “Today, EDEMSA’s subcontractors are within a communication environment with ProjectWise. Without needing to be in the same physical location, Bentley provided the technology so that people could deliver faster and with fewer errors. When working well as a team, all results are maximized.”

This initial success did not end with the Palmares substation. Convinced of the methodology’s value, EDEMSA now requires in its new tenders that contractors use Bentley technology, creating a multiplying effect and establishing a new standard for the sector in the country.

Future Vision: Repeat, Scale and Amplify the Message

For ItresE, the EDEMSA case is a milestone that needs to be shared. It is concrete proof that the methodology works and can be replicated by other companies in the region. The next challenge is to continue expanding the use of Bentley solutions at EDEMSA and take this successful model to other markets.

“This success story should allow us to use it as a reference to seek out other regions that may be going through a similar situation,” concluded Schister.

ItresE is also listed in the Bentley Ecosystem Catalog, offering training and services for OpenUtilities Substation, MicroStation, Promis.e, Bentley Raceway and Cable Management, and iTwin Capture. Click here to learn more about their listing.
