Smarter assets, safer futures: Trendspek’s digital asset performance in action

Trendspek

Trendspek, headquartered in Sydney, Australia, is redefining how critical infrastructure is managed. As a structural lifecycle management system, Trendspek works with owners, engineers, and contractors to streamline inspection, reporting, remediation, planning, and ongoing monitoring of assets. Their client base spans Australia, Europe, Middle East, and North America.

Traditionally, infrastructure inspections have been limited by physical access and assumptions. “Most of our clients typically relied on inspecting 20% of an asset, and made assumptions on the remaining structure” explains Derek Feebrey, CEO and co-founder of Trendspek. This fragmented approach often left asset owners with incomplete information, poising challenges for capital projects, risk mitigation, and maintenance planning.

Trendspek identified a need for a digital-first approach: collecting high-fidelity data through robotics, drones, and water-based remotely operated vehicles, and converting it into detailed, engineering-grade models. This allows for accurate inspections without relying on risky or time-consuming on-site workflows.

How Trendspek Uses Bentley iTwin to Power Remote Asset Inspections

Trendspek leverages Bentley’s iTwin and Cesium platform to transform raw data into precise, interactive 3D models. These models not only replicate physical assets down to the millimeter, but also enable remote, interactive assessments. “A model is just a model, and a viewer is just a viewer,” Derek notes. “If it doesn’t meet engineering requirements and optimize workflows, it’s worthless.” This seamless integration not only enhances the precision of asset inspections but also fosters a collaborative ecosystem that drives efficiency and innovation.

Through the Bentley Ecosystem Catalog, Trendspek can now offer these capabilities to a broader range of clients, including those who produce their own models. This integration ensures that owners, engineers, and contractors can work within a shared digital environment, improving accuracy, reducing assumptions, and lowering operational risks.

The digital transformation extends beyond efficiency. By enabling remote inspections, Trendspek helps organizations reduce carbon emissions, minimize disruptions, and improve workforce safety. Engineers can perform detailed assessments from anywhere in the world, extending the working life of experienced professionals and enabling a more inclusive workforce. Derek has seen “clients reduce their risk exposure by 70% across financial, reputation and governance risks along with cost and time efficiencies deliver more than a 10x return.”

“Some of our engineering clients are now inspecting offshore assets from their living rooms, between school runs,” Derek shares. These innovations also extend asset life, helping owners make informed decisions about capital allocation, maintenance, and risk management. The result is safer, more resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.

Driving Collaboration Through the Bentley Ecosystem Catalog

Joining the Bentley Ecosystem Catalog amplifies Trendspek’s ability to contribute to a broader infrastructure ecosystem. Their focus on the “operate and maintain” phase complements Bentley’s tools, while integration with other catalog partners enhances end-to-end solutions. Derek emphasizes, “It’s a team effort to digitize an industry. We can’t do it ourselves, and neither can anyone else.”

This collaboration allows Trendspek to ingest data from construction, remediation, and design phases, creating a continuous, detailed historical record of each asset—ensuring knowledge is preserved even as personnel or owners change.

Looking ahead

Trendspek aims to digitize one million assets in the next five years, accelerating the adoption of precise digital twin technologies globally. Through the Bentley Ecosystem Catalog, they hope to bring more owners, operators, and consultancies into the digital space. Derek concludes, “There’s no time to wait. Organizations embracing digital now will gain a competitive advantage—reducing costs, mitigating risks, and enabling AI-driven insights for future infrastructure management.”

By combining Trendspek’s inspection and monitoring expertise with powerful visualization and modeling technologies in Bentley’s platforms, the partnership showcases how digital transformation can improve efficiency, sustainability, and decision-making across the world’s critical infrastructure.
