Project
GEA Equipamentos e Soluções SA (GEA) was retained to design a milk pasteurization system with a production capacity of 35 cubic meters per hour for the city of Marechal Cândido Rondon in Paraná, Brazil. The project required GEA to design the plant within a limited time frame and reduced physical space. To accommodate the time and space constraints, meet all regulatory and safety standards, and seamlessly coordinate among multiple engineering disciplines, GEA needed collaborative 3D plant design software that facilitated construction and operation.
Solution
GEA used OpenPlant to model the plant piping, automate clash detection, and customize a catalog of components, which facilitated and shortened the design time and improved the material purchasing process. Working in a collaborative, interoperable 3D modeling environment enhanced coordination among the multi-discipline engineering team and enabled GEA to meet project demands while reducing overall costs.
Outcome
Using Bentley OpenPlant increased ROI by reducing the number of labor hours to complete the project, yielding an overall cost saving. OpenPlant accelerated the extraction of isometric drawings, reducing project delivery time by 10 percent and construction time by 20 percent. The accurate and interoperable modeling and analysis capabilities of Bentley’s 3D plant design software together with the automated extraction of isometric drawings enabled GEA to optimize delivery time and avoid fabrication errors.
Software
The project team used OpenPlant to model the plant piping, check for interferences and design errors, and automate the extraction of isometrics. The ability to customize a catalog of components in OpenPlant facilitated design and shortened the materials purchasing process. Using Bentley’s collaborative, interoperable modeling and analysis software improved coordination among the electrical, mechanical, piping, and design engineering disciplines, allowed for faster extraction of isometric projections, and minimized man hours to complete design and construction of the pasteurization plant ahead of schedule.
