Leveraging large terrain models with scalable terrain models

The ability to view and manipulate larger terrain models also improves the quality of decisions made in infrastructure projects.  Visualization tools such as high resolution image overlay and viewshed analysis increase the value of very large terrain models.

Working with Mixed Raster/Vector Data


Bentley Descartes allows immediate editing of raster and vector data, reducing costs associated with data maintenance. It is the perfect tool to work in a hybrid environment where raster binary documents (plans, maps, etc.) and overlapping vector elements complement each other and need to be edited in the same environment. The legacy raster drawing can be updated without conversion.

Working with 3D-oriented Raster Data

Many cities are digitizing their buildings in 3D and require tools to apply textures to these buildings. Several editing tools can be used on such images. Bentley Descartes includes tools to rectify images for 3D texturing as well as applying those textures to building shapes.  Features such as “Work in Image Plane” constrains all mouse input to the plane of the image for easy modeling.

Accessing Oracle Spatial Raster Data (GeoRaster)

Oracle Spatial is fast becoming the standard method for organizations to store and manage very large volumes of spatial data. Raster data can also be stored in Oracle as GeoRaster. Bentley Descartes can “BROWSE,” “QUERY,” “ATTACH,” and “DISPLAY” GeoRaster data. The images are displayed directly from the database.

Raster Digital Elevation Model (DEM)

Bentley Descartes can attach and display Raster DEM data. Thematic filters can be applied to highlight the required information including elevation, slope, or the aspect (slope orientation). A “Hillshade” option can be turned on for a more realistic display.

Scene Creation (Merge)

Bentley Descartes can be used to create images to produce a high-resolution snapshot from any view, split large rasters or a mosaic of rasters into a predefined grid of rasters, merge rasters, create a mosaic, and convert an entire DGN vector drawing into a raster.

Bentley Descartes can also export scenes into a geo-referenced file. Output resolution can be specified. All element types are supported as well as rendered views.
