Reality modeling using 3D photogrammetry or laser scanning can be difficult and time-consuming. With iTwin Capture Modeler (formerly known as ContextCapture), you can save time, money, and continually produce highly accurate 3D reality meshes. Bentley’s eStore offers surveyors and engineers access to Bentley’s most popular reality modeling software with its Reality Modeling WorkSuite.
The Montrose Interchange project aimed to replace a T-junction on the N4 highway to enhance traffic flow, safety, and boost Mbombela’s economy and tourism. Located in a mountainous area between two rivers, the project faced tough terrain and lacked survey data. SMEC, realizing traditional 2D methods were inadequate, used iTwin Capture to create a reality mesh and LumenRT for design visualization, securing the contract.
Using OpenRoads Designer and corridor modeling tools, SMEC integrated bridge models, calculated materials accurately, and minimized the carbon footprint. The digital workflow saved around 2,500 design hours and ZAR 2.5 million in costs.
