FAQS

Find answers

Carbon Analysis is a series of capabilities that enable designers and engineers to efficiently calculate, report, and visualize the embodied carbon footprint from lifecycle stages A1-A3 of their proposed design, using an iTwin.

Embodied carbon is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the production, transportation, installation, maintenance, and disposal of building materials in all life cycle phases.

Generating carbon reporting is a critical component of sustainability analysis, now required on many new infrastructure projects globally. The design and construct phases of the project lifecycle can contribute significantly to an asset’s lifetime carbon footprint, and minimizing carbon footprint during the design phase is a key factor in achieving sustainable infrastructure.

Carbon Analysis makes it easy for engineers to design infrastructure more sustainably with one-click reporting, as well as through visualization of their environmental carbon footprint directly in their design model. This empowers designers to accelerate infrastructure decarbonization and minimize environmental impact already in the early design phases, where most of the embodied carbon of a project is defined.

Carbon Analysis is relevant to a cross section of regions and industries, including:

  • Regions: North America, Northern Europe, ANZ, SE Asia
  • Industries: Water Utilities, Electric Utilities, Rail/Transit, Roads & Bridges, Cities & Campuses

Carbon Analysis focuses on embodied carbon across lifecycle stages A1–A3, which include raw material supply, transportation, and manufacturing. These stages represent the largest share of a project’s carbon footprint and are critical for early design decisions.
