Our analytics programs help Bentley understand how our products and services are used. Recognizing how users work lets us prioritize and design new features, improve the quality, performance, and reliability of existing ones, and surface insights that help you get more value from your software.
Information we collect
We collect usage data based on your interactions with us and our products and services. In some cases, we associate this data with your Bentley account. Bentley’s analytics program is built on privacy and security by design principles. Learn more about Bentley’s privacy practices here.
Analytics program data might include:
- Identifiers and account information, such as your Bentley ID, account identifiers, login information, IP address, approximate location, organization and license-related identifiers.
- Product, license and entitlement information, such as the Bentley offering used, product ID, license status, entitlement information, activation information and related transactional data.
- Product usage and interaction data, such as sessions, commands, features used, workflows, clickstream information, events, date and time stamps, and other usage patterns.
- Device, system and environment information, such as browser type and language, operating system, device type, device name, configuration settings, environment variables, diagnostic information and technical logs.
- Diagnostic and crash-reporting information, such as error reports, crash logs, call stacks, abbreviated memory information and related technical data needed to investigate unexpected software behavior, improve stability and harden Bentley products. Depending on product configuration and user or administrator choices, diagnostic reports may include personal data and, in limited cases, information about the active file or design environment.
- Design and model metadata, such as file format, size, dimensional units, object and layer metrics, metadata and related technical characteristics.
- Website, support and online interaction data, such as pages viewed, links followed, webinar or event interactions, support tickets, forum activity, survey responses and chat or other online interactions.
How we use the information we collect
We process usage data to deliver the products and features you’ve requested, provide support, maintain product security and stability, identify unauthorized use of our products and services (including license compliance activities), and improve our products and services. Information about how you use Bentley products and services may also help us develop new offerings and tailor offers to you.
These are a few examples of how we use the usage data we collect:
- Diagnosing and fixing software defects and crashes
- Understanding how our products and services are used
- Researching how users interact with our products
- Delivering more relevant experiences, workflows, and learning content
- Planning and evaluating our communications
- Creating offers and promotional content that are more relevant to you

We also use aggregated statistics that do not identify you for internal operational purposes, such as measuring monthly active users by product or region.
How we work with third parties

Retention and Security
We retain analytics and usage data only as long as necessary for the purposes described on this page and in the Bentley Privacy Statement, including providing and supporting the services, maintaining security, meeting legal, tax and accounting obligations, and supporting legitimate operational needs. We protect personal data using technical and organizational measures as described in the Bentley Privacy Statement.
Your Choices and Rights
