GeoStudio can be used to conduct seepage analysis of complex groundwater systems to better understand mechanisms affecting flow and storage at the project site. However, setting realistic boundary conditions, defining unsaturated material properties, and interpreting the complex results can be challenging.

In this Coffee Corner, we will explore different data sources that contribute to setting up and interrogating complex seepage analysis. We will also review a case study highlighting various information sources, including different laboratory and field data, and how these were used for setting up and calibrating the associated seepage analysis for a tailings management facility.

Key features that will be highlighted include:

Using laboratory and/or field testing data to define the hydraulic properties of various materials. Setting up time-dependent boundary conditions to represent changing groundwater conditions and climate interactions. Tips for model calibration using field data.
