Pile-supported foundations are often evaluated based on the assumptions of single-pile behavior. However, in reality, piles interact through the surrounding soil, causing uneven load distribution, changes in foundation stiffness, and settlement patterns that basic models cannot accurately capture.
In this Coffee Corner, we will explore common pile modeling choices, from single-pile to full pile-group models, alongside the physical realities of pile interaction. We will discuss how different modeling assumptions influence your results and cover some practical PLAXIS options for representing pile groups.
