From Ground Investigation to Numerical Analysis: A Connected Geotechnical Workflows for Tunnel Design
In tunnel projects, the quality of downstream numerical analysis depends on how well the ground model has first been built and checked. When borehole logs, CPT data, groundwater conditions, and geological boundaries are updated across disconnected steps, the tunnel interpretation becomes harder to revise, validate, and defend.
This webinar shows how Leapfrog Works can be used as the modeling core to build and refine a 3D tunnel ground model from investigation data managed upstream in OpenGround, then prepare geological outputs for downstream PLAXIS analysis. The session focuses on tunnel interpretation, alternative ground model scenarios, section-based review, and handoff checks so that the geological model is technically defensible before numerical analysis begins.
What you will learn:
- Import data directly and dynamically into Leapfrog Works from OpenGround (borehole, CPT, lithology, and rock characterisation).
- Build, validate, and update robust 3D geological and geotechnical models along tunnel alignments in Leapfrog Works.
- Interpret stratigraphy, faults, lithology, and different tunnel sections with greater confidence.
- Compare alternative geological interpretations and validate models against investigation data before design decisions are made.
- Export high-quality geological models from Leapfrog Works into PLAXIS to build and run advanced numerical analyses for tunnel excavation.
- Reduce rework by updating the geological models efficiently as new site investigation data becomes available.
- This session is ideal for geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists looking to move from data to decisions faster and with greater confidence.
