In Indonesia's geothermal push, steep and unstable high-elevation terrain in Muara Enim, South Sumatra, together with massive earthworks of 216,000 cubic meters of cut and 156,000 cubic meters of fill, made the 55 MW Lumut Balai plant a demanding build for PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, while siloed workflows across Civil 3D and manual Excel sheets left the team with data gaps, coordination conflicts on overlapping work zones, manual rescheduling, and material waste risk. WIKA adopted a connected Bentley lifecycle workflow: iTwin with drone LiDAR to turn survey data into high-precision 3D terrain models, OpenSite Designer and OpenRoads Designer to optimize access roads and earthworks, OpenPlant Modeler for intelligent, clash-free pipeline routing, and SYNCHRO 4D to sequence construction and resolve spatial conflicts with other contractors — paired with its own copyrighted OPIT AI rebar-cutting software, compliant with BS 8666:2020. Breaking down the silos saved 63,000 work hours, reduced earthworks to save IDR 5.99 billion (about USD 370,000) on a USD 157 million project, cut concrete volumes by 3%, and held a cost performance index of 1.007. Optimized road design protected slopes from landslide risk and avoided 60,177 cubic meters of clearing, while digital rebar optimization avoided 13,000 kilograms of embodied carbon, and full AMDAL compliance safeguarded local forest habitats. The project logged 2 million safe man-hours with zero lost-time injuries and completed on 29 June 2025; the plant now generates 433,630 MWh of clean baseload electricity a year, displacing coal and avoiding 581,800 tons of CO2 annually — proving connected digital delivery as the foundation for faster, safer, lower-carbon renewable energy.
