Project
The CNY 1.9 billion reconstruction project includes bridges, interchanges, and overpasses along an 8.4-kilometer stretch of Heping West Road, traversing city streets, a water division channel, and railway in Hebei’s largest city, Shijiazhuang. To compare and select bridge scheme considering span, constructability, and suitability for the surrounding environment required complex design and analysis among a multi-discipline engineering team. Tianjin Municipal Engineering (TME) needed a collaborative BIM methodology to determine a cost-efficient solution adaptable to the demands of a developing cultural city.
Solution
TME used Bentley BIM advancements to model design alternatives and analyze various schemes taking into account bridge height and span, structural integrity, spanning arrangement, interchange layout, and geological conditions. Using ProjectWise as the collaboration platform enabled the multi-discipline project team to communicate the design intent, visualize the options, exchange design documents in real time, and make changes quickly and efficiently.
Outcome
Implementing a collaborative BIM methodology using Bentley software improved work efficiency, shortening design time by about one week. The ability to perform collision inspection minimized risk associated with height clearance and land occupation. Bentley’s flexible, interoperable modeling and analysis software enabled TME to accommodate the complex project challenges, streamline workflow, and produce quality designs to optimize construction.
Software
Bentley’s integrated modeling technology provided TME a collaborative environment facilitating an efficient, quality design process. Using Bentley BIM processes allowed the project team to model and analyze various design alternatives, communicate design intent, and visualize options. The ProjectWise platform streamlined workflow, enabling the team to exchange design documents, and make changes quickly and efficiently, in real-time, shortening design time by approximately one week.
