This CNY 729 million ferrous metallurgy project for Rizhao Steel Holding Group encompassed the construction of a sintering plant with a 600-square-meter machine that would become the largest single sintering machine in China. Covering 23,000 square meters, the project plans to produce 5.94 million tons of cold sinter annually. Working from an initial design based on a 2D model, Tianjin MCC20 Construction Co., Ltd was challenged to complete the project within a short construction cycle.
Since multiple engineering disciplines were involved in the construction and installation work, 3D BIM technology from Bentley was used to meet the project contract in terms of schedule, quality, safety, and cost, including the use of ProjectWise to facilitate information sharing and collaboration. The 3D modeling tools allowed visual and comprehensive evaluation of the process layout. The 3D model became the basis for 4D construction simulation and design of a relevant construction scheme.
Using Bentley solutions, Tianjin MCC20 Construction shortened construction by 35 days, reduced project costs by CNY 4.5 million, and decreased the number of changes by 95% through clash detection and resolution. With a return on investment of 1,100%, this project exceeded projected social and economic milestones.
Tianjin MCC20 Construction implemented Bentley’s ProjectWise collaboration platform to achieve the project goals within a short time-frame. The BIM toolset included AECOsim Building Designer, GEOPAK, MicroStation, Bentley Navigator, Bentley OpenPlant, ProjectWise, and Bentley Raceway and Cable Management. Using the Bentley platform helped standardize design management, simplify production, and shorten review cycles.
