Pall, a global leader in filtration and purification system technologies, was contracted to design the Jet-pulse Blowback Filtration System for the Panipat Refinery in Haryana province, India. The INR 55 million project was fast-tracked, with all engineering deliverables such as general arrangement drawings, isometrics, and bills of materials to be completed within six weeks. The client required customized nonstandard equipment and customized isometric symbols, and lead time for drawings and piping plans needed to be reduced as much as possible. In addition, the complex piping design needed to fit in a limited space while accommodating high temperature piping. Close coordination between the engineering and fabrication teams was critical in order to reduce rework during construction and installation.
In order to meet the compressed schedule and other client requirements Pall chose AutoPLANT for this project. AutoPLANT provided visualization capabilities and user-friendly features that were better than other solutions it had previously used. Bentley Navigator enabled thorough and accurate clash detection crucial to the confined space, reducing the need for rework and supporting the tight schedule. In addition, i-models facilitated streamlined design reviews, speeding approvals and contributing to effective cost control.
Pall released piping deliverables for the Jet-pulse Blowback Filtration System for fabrication within two weeks of the start of modeling and completed all deliverables in six weeks. This was as compared to 24 weeks for its last similarly executed project. Using AutoPLANT, Pall met the client’s requirement for customized equipment and isometric symbols, and created 3D drawings and their associated general arrangement plant drawings. Pall’s designers also saved time using AutoPLANT’s deliverables and built-in libraries. Overall, Bentley software reduced man-hours by nearly 70%, increasing productivity, profitability, and improving project quality.
AutoPLANT was used for piping drawings and plans, with customization capabilities, built-in libraries, and deliverables contributing to the successful and timely completion of the project. Bentley Navigator was used to review and analyze project information, detecting and resolving clashes virtually to reduce the need for delays and costly rework. The team used online training through Bentley Institute, and when it needed assistance, the team received prompt help from Bentley’s support team.
