For this INR 1.2 billion project in India, L&T Construction Equipment designed a customer care center for Tata Consultancy Services. The 4,000-square-meter building is 16.5 meters high, and is highlighted by a 132-meter-high distinctive steel tower. Both the building and the tower boast an innovative butterfly curved roof design. The customer care center promises to stand out not only as a Chennai landmark, but also as an iconic structure for India.
L&T Construction Equipment used Bentley STAAD to design, analyze, and model the structural steel for both the building and the tower. This included the analysis and design of the roof truss for the main building and tower, the canopy structures, plate girder (using FEM), spine structure, and the main pinnacle. The curved roof structure was fabricated using structural steel tubes with architectural envelope on top and architectural exposed structural steel at the bottom.
Using STAAD.Pro to optimize the structural model, the project team saved time and projected construction costs while producing an iconic design. Achieving optimal design in a short time frame was key to project success.
Using STAAD.Pro, the firm’s design team rapidly produced variations of the building; studied member forces, member stress, reactions, and deflections; and analyzed load combinations for the member design.
