Project
SPbAEP, a branch of Golovnoi Institute, or VNIPIET, is a long-term user of Bentley software. They wanted to enhance and modernize the company’s design software capabilities in order to generate 3D models of building structures, as well as fully automate the harmonization of all elements and volume calculations.

Solution
SPbAEP deployed multiple Bentley products to support processes for generating 3D models, harmonizing all elements, automating volume calculations and document preparation. The software is accessed using a unified user interface that enables collective work on a virtual 3D-model of buildings and facilities such as reactors. The technology includes filters so that users can display schematics of various types with ease.

Outcome
Today, SPbAEP offers a world-class design process that covers all phases of the design process, including the development of a conceptual model, the production of working drawings and manufacturing designs, work-load estimates, and transmissions to cost estimate systems. It has been used to successfully complete many complex reactor facilities, as well as to modernize and extend the service life of several existing power generation units in Russian nuclear power plants. Heightened efficiencies and automations have resulted in 25% faster project implementation periods.

Software
SPbAEP uses Bentley MicroStation to develop 2D and 3D designs, including models of the armature in concrete structures, embedded items and steel profiles. It’s also used as a platform for other software. Bentley speedikon is used to develop a three-dimensional model of building structures and to generate data for use in working documentation.
