EPCOR Water Services Inc. wanted to improve how its staff operates, maintains and upgrades its infrastructure. To do this, they needed to upgrade key software to Windows 7, including a data maintenance tool, GIS data visualization and construction drawing tools, and a GIS mobile computing tool – all running on Bentley software. With a community of more than 500 users, the new system needed to maintain consistent user experience, functionality, and availability.
After consultation and research, they selected MicroStation and Bentley Map PowerView as the applications on which they would build their new software applications, ensuring they maintained geo-context. Over an 18-month period, EPCOR designed and deployed a solution that provided users with the ability to create and update, store, manage, maintain, visualize, analyze, extract, and share spatial data of water and related utilities to improve the upgrades of their distribution and transmission network.
EPCOR significantly improved its ability to ensure that staff operate, maintain, and upgrade corporate infrastructure safely and consistently, whilst upgrading to the latest version of the software. Drafting technologists and project managers can access the most current information on water and other utilities. This data is used to identify and define the scope of projects, create designs for construction projects and allow project managers and designers to identify potential design conflicts and complete accurate safety assessments before construction begins.
As a provider of safe drinking water, EPCOR needs applications and data that provide accurate information in a timely manner. This information is used to plan for future upgrades and expansion of the distribution and transmission network. This new suite of Bentley applications, including MicroStation, and Bentley Map PowerView, enables EPCOR to do its work effectively, providing up-to-date, accurate information and it plays a key role in establishing it as an organization dedicated to being among the best at what it does.
