The channel of Port of Santos, Brazil, separates two bustling cities: Santos and Guarujá. Travelers between these cities must take a ferry that takes 90 minutes during the summer or drive 47 kilometers, so city planners decided to build an 870-meter tunnel to ease and speed mobility between the two cities. Three firms partnered to engineer this technological first for Brazil, as all parts of the tunnel will be built on the surface and then submerged to the channel bottom.
With three design and engineering companies working together, collaboration, data security, and document control were crucial, so they chose ProjectWise for engineering content management. Using PowerCivil for Brazil they could rapidly develop the necessary geometry, visualize the project as a whole, and collaborate using files created with other design software such as AutoCAD.
Tunnel construction is expected to be completed by March of 2018. In the meantime, Engevix and its design partners are realizing safer, more efficient collaboration and faster project delivery. ProjectWise is accelerating work completion by providing real-time access to information for everyone on the project team and PowerCivil for Brazil's ability to model multiple corridors and manage the various scenarios improved the team’s ability to compare options and select the best design for the project.
PowerCivil for Brazil was used to rapidly develop the necessary the 3D design model, visualize the project as a whole, and enable importation and incorporation of design files created with other software. ProjectWise enabled faster, easier, and more secure information access and collaboration across geographically distributed teams.
