On this USD 540 million project, Pagbilao Energy Corporation retained the joint venture team of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. and Daelim Industrial Co. as the EPC contractors for a 420-megawatt coal-fired plant in Pagbilao, Quezon, Philippines. Daelim Industrial is supplying the blow-out prevention equipment, including coal handling systems, and is responsible for civil engineering and installation work. Called Unit 3, it is being built adjacent to two existing coal-fired units.
Using STAAD.Pro, Daelim Industrial significantly shortened the time it took for structural calculations. The team performed a model review using Bentley Navigator to detect and resolve clashes that would affect constructability. This minimized the occurrence of problems on-site and contributed to the high productivity levels achieved on the project. STAAD.Pro was also used to shorten the period of structural calculation for the large-scale, steam turbine building.
This turnkey project was built in response to the government’s plea for the private sector to build additional capacity that will help address the country’s development needs. Pagbilao Unit 3 will service the needs of distribution utilities, large-scale industrial customers, and residential users. The joint-venture team’s role will extend through pre-commissioning to commissioning, startup, and provisional turnover, which is expected in November 2017.
In addition to MicroStation, STAAD.Pro and Bentley Navigator were instrumental in the project team’s ability to achieve a high level of productivity while maintaining a degree of accuracy that contributed to improved constructability.
