Originally built in the 1950s, the City of Las Vegas Wastewater Pollution Control Facility required a USD 20 million upgrade to improve treated water quality prior to discharge. CH2M HILL was tasked with creating as-built models of more than 18 facilities and the underground network of piping and utilities, then linking the resulting BIM to a database accessible via the Wastewater Pollution Control Facility Operations & Maintenance Manual.
All design disciplines authored content within a controlled environment using Bentley’s intelligent modeling tools configured to meet the client’s BIM goals. These tools enabled CH2M HILL to model on a common platform, view intelligent data via Bentley Navigator, report information via ProjectWise, and validate models against existing facilities. Combined with CH2M HILL’s customized ProjectWise Reporting and Resource Management application, Bentley solutions ensured efficient workflows.
ProjectWise reduced the company’s effort and cost to model the existing plant by 50%. With the delivery of intelligent as-built models, the Wastewater Pollution Control Facility operations, maintenance, and construction personnel are now able to visualize the plant in part or as a whole, and use the data for other purposes such as material quantity take-offs for repairs, clash detection for renovations, data validation for facility management, and 3D visualizations for operator training.
CH2M HILL applied Bentley software for all design disciplines, including architectural, structural, building mechanical, electrical, civil, process mechanical, piping, and instrumentation. Bentley Navigator facilitated model review, visualization, and clash detection. CH2M HILL managed data and information using ProjectWise and developed the ProjectWise Resource Manager to distribute extremely large datasets to team members in eight offices across North America.
