Project
The Republic of Azerbaijan is the largest country in the Caucasus region. Azersu is in charge of policy and strategy for the country’s water supply and sanitation services. As part of a massive restructuring of its infrastructure system Azersu needed to gather and store infrastructure data in a GIS system to improve its operation and maintenance of its water and sanitation systems. The solution had to act as a central collaboration platform for Azersu’s master plan, SCADA system, and the other IT systems.

Solution
Using Bentley software, Azersu’s built “AzersuCIS,” an advanced urban infrastructure and environmental management solution based on a geographic information system that provides data security and access to maps and information for planning, production, operation and emergency management. This professional GIS and 3D modeling solution runs on MicroStation and MicroStation PowerDraft software and is integrated with desktop and web applications, as well as CAD systems, and houses all infrastructure and superstructure facilities and client information.

Outcome
Azersu now has a digital asset and operational information platform for ongoing maintenance, operations and compliance activities. They can use AzersuCIS to centrally manage the entire infrastructure system of Azerbaijan, resulting in higher quality and better-performing infrastructure assets with improved operational efficiency and safety, reduced costs with higher service quality, increased resilience and higher return on infrastructure investments all within a single source of truth.

Software
3D information modeling was powered by Bentley software, including MicroStation and MicroStation PowerDraft, Bentley Map, WaterCAD, and SewerCAD. Using the Bentley software, users can create and integrate design, documentation and analysis in a federated repository for design, operation and construction information. The solution supports rigorous simulation of asset performance so that project teams can fully explore options as they work to maximize design objectives.
Outcome/Facts:
  • Teams can develop integrated designs that reflect the best analysis and latest decisions.
  • People can work faster – for example, users can access maps in 20 seconds compared to one hour and process requests in 25 minutes compared to two hours.
  • Azersu has already saved USD 800,000 in the first seven months due to a 70-90% decrease in visible expenses (such as paper costs). Invisible savings related to better investments, more efficient operations, and better planning have not been quantified but have also improved.
