To better manage planned outages costing nearly USD 1 million per day in lost revenue, Ameren’s Callaway Energy Center streamlined its document and records management. With approximately 7,500 tasks outlined in roughly 3,000 work packages for a typical outage, to stay on schedule required Ameren to expedite the location and review of documentation. Using dated technology, losing experienced staff, and adhering to stringent nuclear records management regulations, Ameren realized its mainframe environment could no longer effectively support its challenging information demands in a competitive market.
At the Callaway Energy Center, Ameren replaced 50 mainframe applications with Bentley eB Information Manager (now AssetWise ALIM). Using AssetWise ALIM to manage its asset information system offered access to documents containing data from about 240,000 plant components. The software’s ability to create relationships and interrelate information and objects regardless of system or format allowed staff to locate components and see relevant data, drawings, maintenance records, and design-basis documentation. Ameren integrated the software with its work management system to enhance configuration management with fewer resources.
The efficiencies introduced by using AssetWise ALIM as a single modern platform for Ameren’s information management system ensured timely and effective modification and maintenance during scheduled plant outages, significantly reducing costs. Using eB’s relationship capabilities to automate manual processes and streamline information improved information access and accuracy, reduced time required for plant staff to find and verify documents, and resulted in less rework.
AssetWise ALIM platform enabled Ameren to streamline and automate the capture and management of its nuclear records. The software’s powerful linking feature indexes each record, associating it with every object it relates to, such as components, procedures, corrective actions, work orders, and people, to ensure accurate context management. The flexible security and permissions capabilities allowed Ameren to transfer confidential records and store them in PDF format, solving confidentiality issues. Engineers used the software’s configuration and change management tools to implement a closed-loop change management process meeting industry best practice standards.
