The Taoshan Lake is an ecological, environmental, and water conservancy development along the Woken River in Heilongjiang, China. The initiative included creating a wetland ecological culture area, promoting tourism and leisure by adding to the nearby city of Qitaihe and improving urban ecological development. The project area covers over 6.5 million square meters within a narrow, complex construction site. The USD 169 million project required a team of consultants from two organizations—Qitaihe Jianhe Investment and Construction Management and Heilongjiang Big Data Industrial Development—to work with a large amount of project data and varying, robust models. Additionally, the team had a short window of construction of just two years.

Improving Collaboration with Simulation

To overcome these challenges, the project team needed an integrated and collaborative construction technology solution, allowing all project participants to meet deadlines and objectives on time. Given the size and complexity of this project, traditional construction collaboration would not allow the team to meet the demanding timelines. Therefore, they sought technology that would allow them to conduct simulations, providing clearer timing of the project schedule. The team displayed key control information for the various disciplines, helping establish uniform decision-making analysis for unified management.

The project team’s digital solution reduced construction time by 40% to achieve delivery 240 days ahead of schedule and save over CNY 60 million. Leveraging BIM, engineering quantity, and environmental data in a digital platform helped utilize intelligence control, reducing costs associated with human error by over CNY 2 million. Through SYNCHRO’s data processing, they improved communication and task execution while reducing overall costs.
