    London Bridge Station

    London, United Kingdom

Project Summary

Project
The recently rehabilitated London Bridge Station, one of the city’s most important hubs for commuters and visitors, offers a spacious concourse and supports Network Rail’s initiatives to meet the demands of 21st-century rail passengers. Pipetech Engineering Solution joined the project’s main contractor Costain in March 2018 to deliver as-built deliverables for the rail tracks and signaling. To complete its portion of the work, Pipetech needed to implement a 3D BIM strategy throughout the drafting process to reduce resource hours and save time on the schedule.

Solution
Pipetech used Bentley’s integrated 3D modeling technology, along with ProjectWise as the basis for a connected data environment (CDE), to share and exchange models and information across the project team. The newly opened station retains the heritage of its earlier iteration, while offering visitors a spacious concourse – all at street level. Additionally, the concourse’s timber-lined ceiling hides a system that reduces echoes, highlighting the acoustics of the space.

Outcome
Working in a CDE simplified and streamlined workflows, which helped to enable access to all file versions and user tracking. Files are easy to recover, which helps reduce drafting errors. The applications helped the team reduce resource hours and facilitate error-checking to optimize quality.

Software
ProjectWise provided the platform to establish the CDE, while OpenBuildings Station Designer and MicroStation were used to design the as-built deliverables for the rail tracks and signaling.

Quote:
  • “It is very easy to recover files with an earlier version, if something should go wrong while drafting. [ProjectWise] tracks the list of users who worked on the design at different levels.”
