Project
One of the fastest growing fiber optic network operators in Indonesia, iForte Solusi Infotek serves customers on the populous Java Island and other networks throughout the country. The company’s communications infrastructure includes more than 6,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable, 17,000 towers, numerous WIFI access points, and 3,500 very small aperture terminal (VSAT) sites. Faced with planning, delivery, maintenance, and sales difficulties driven by inaccurate data in multiple formats and complex, inefficient processes, the company sought to centralize data and streamline workflows by implementing a fiber management system.
Solution
iForte chose Bentley Communications geographic information system (GIS) network and engineering solutions to execute its fiber management system, integrating all data and automating formerly manual analyses and calculations. After all raw data was migrated to Bentley Communications, the company piloted Geo Web Publisher for Communications (GWPC) to provide real-time asset information and accessibility to engineers, sales, and maintenance, regardless of location. Bentley’s integrated communications software applications simplified development and implementation of iForte’s management system and provided a connected data environment throughout all lifecycle stages, optimizing the existing network infrastructure and maximizing potential sales targets.
Outcome
iForte’s Bentley-based fiber optic management system centralized all network data and synergized planning, sales, and operations and maintenance processes, resulting in a three-year return on investment of 203 percent. The sales team can log into GWPC to view all the networks, and in six minutes they can determine whether customer requirements can be met, saving 90 percent of time on previously manual tasks. Using Bentley’s communication applications streamlined network maintenance, enabling a visual system trace to the outage location, reducing mean time to repair by at least two hours and increasing service performance.
Software
During the migration stage, iForte used MicroStation and Bentley Fiber to design and transfer outdoor infrastructure and customer information, and Bentley Inside Plant for vertical networks and indoor equipment, integrating all network assets into a connected data environment. Bentley Expert Designer streamlined engineering workflows throughout design creation, approval, and production of an as-built drawing. Bentley’s interoperable applications reduced planning and analysis processes from eight hours to two, increasing design delivery time by four times.
