Projekt
Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province in central China, will require an additional 749 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2017. Northwest Electric Power Design Institute is the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for a CNY 2.6 billion thermal power plant in Fuping that will meet Xi’an’s growing needs and extend the area’s central heating coverage. The plant will provide power using two 350 MW supercritical air-cooled heat units.
Lösung
Engineering a plant capable of providing power to 540,000 people required high-precision 3D design applications. The institute used Bentley Substation to design the electrical system, perform calculations, and model all equipment in 3D, ensuring data alignment and integrity. The 3D model provided a realistic visualization that allowed for seamless 3D browsing and clash detection, which in turn simplified communication among project participants. Data was published to i-models enabling the multi-office team members to access models from mobile devices, while maintaining all the original attributes.
Ergebnis
Using Bentley’s electrical substation design software, the institute reduced design time by 70 percent compared to traditional 2D methods, while providing more accurate directions in advance of construction, enabling the team to save 1,273 resource hours—a 30 percent reduction. The domestic power plant project was also the first of its kind to use the technology of “Integrating Four Towers into One.” Comprising an air cooling tower, desulfurization tower, low-position smoke emission tower, and a wet dust collector, the two 350 MW supercritical air cooling and heating units will reduce the influence of the project on the environment to the minimum extent, and upon implementation, replace Xi’an’s existing high-pollution, low efficiency heating boiler, saving energy and improving the surrounding urban environment.
Software
The institute used Bentley Substation, Bentley Raceway and Cable Management, AECOsim Building Designer, PowerCivil, and Navigator to accommodate various information models among the departments, and MicroStation to facilitate collaborative design. Bentley Substation helped the project team achieve hierarchical and valid management control over electric specialty systems and project data, which ensured accuracy. Pulling information together from across the electrical systems design, 3D arrangement, electrical calculations, statement generation, and other disciplines into the same substation platform enabled data consistency and true integrated design.
