The USD 220 million Fairmont Hotel project, located in the prime breakwater district of Abu Dhabi with extensive beach frontage, would encompass a five-star resort, apartments, soccer field and grandstand, retail outlets, and ancillary buildings – a total area of 1.9 million square feet with two towers rising more than 38 stories. The ultimate goal of the project was to enhance tourism and open the gate for new investment to the area.
The project was unique due to the complexity of managing 10 supply stakeholders, with the added pressure of a requirement to fast-track information and deliverables. AECOsim, MicroStation, and Bentley Navigator provided the tools to create and manage massive amounts of information, connect and link data at the different stages of the project, and manage the documentation of the information, all of which led to improved collaboration and enhanced business workflows.
Auto-generated i-models were critical to Arabtec Construction’s ability to successfully complete the project. All of the engineering data and information in the i-models was also extracted and stored in a SQL database accessible by different departments and site teams. The i-model technology reduced the planned 30-month project duration by 1,000 man-days and cut delivery costs by 30%. Auto-generated i-models are estimated to have reduced operations costs by 30%.
AECOsim Building Designer, MicroStation, and Bentley Navigator provided a flexible and robust platform for content creation and project information management with i-models at the heart. This set-up allowed for 4D/5D integration and site management for the project at tender, post tender, and construction stages. During the different stages of the project, 1,240 models and 2,100 revisions were automatically generated.
