BRIEF

Organization:
USACE Fort Worth TX

Project Name:
USACE Fort Worth District Basic Combat Trainee Barracks BIM

Category:
BIM for Visualization and Simulation

Category Description:
This category applies to creative and effective uses of information based approaches in the simulation and visualization processes. Visualizations and simulations may be in terms of aesthetic, performance, or analytical nature.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is standardizing the design of its military facilities and has designated eight district offices as Centers of Standardization to develop and maintain the standard designs. The challenge was to effectively and efficiently portray the interior and exterior components of the facilities, interior spatial relationships, and integration of the structural and mechanical systems within the architectural models.

The MicroStation visualization and animation tools, Bentley Architecture, Bentley Structural, and other Bentley BIM solutions were the key ingredients in capitalizing on the increased efficiencies provided by BIM across the planning, design, construction, and facilities management phases. The ability to have each discipline produce separate design BIM models and reference each others’ work in real-time strongly promoted a spirit of collaboration and a rapid production of design parameters and team design decisions.
