The municipality of Bergen op Zoom is a township in the south of the Netherlands in the province of Noord-Brabant. The municipality provides for approximately 68,000 people. It is situated between the two large harbors of Antwerp (Belgium) and Rotterdam. One of the many tasks of the municipality is the creation and management of the digital maps. The municipality needed to integrate information from many sources in a common, accessible digital base map to serve the infrastructure departments of the municipality. The base maps are used in several MicroStation environments for maintaining the infrastructure of the municipality (examples: road and sewer) and by many other organizations.

Gemeente Bergen op Zoom solved their interoperability problem by choosing a common spatial datastore, Oracle. They implemented a multi-discipline, multi-department, multi-user spatially managed environment with Bentley Geospatial Management and the Oracle Connector.
