Design and Engineering for Utilities

The Bentley solution for renewable power generation offers utility companies the ability to support repeatable design and modular engineering so project times are much faster and costs are lower, and designs can be optimized and improved on as the technology develops and changes.

Renewable energy is derived from resources that are regenerative or for all practical purposes cannot be depleted. With new legislation regarding restrictions on the environmental impact and greenhouse effects from fossil fuel facilities, renewable energy sources are being studied and proposed as viable alternatives to current fuels. Today numerous sources of renewable energy are available, including wind, solar, geothermal and biomass, and they already contribute approximately 29 percent of human energy use worldwide, with 63 percent of that coming from hydro energy installations.

And while renewable energy technology has seen significant advances over the years and the industry in general is growing, the reality of efficiency and scale are remarkable when considering the global demand for power. When comparing various renewable sources to nuclear power, one can observe the stark contrast in terms of site planning and practical application. These various renewable sources can be easily quantified when comparing the volume of fuel and land required to generate 1,000 mW of electricity.  While radioactive waste disposal remains a primary consideration for environmentalists and nuclear utilities, the amount of storage required still pales in comparison to the land mass needed for renewable sources.
