Cerro Verde is a copper and molybdenum mine in Peru. The project was to design a fresh water system that would provide a seamless system to improve the water supply to the old plant and establish an efficient water supply system for the new primary sulfide plant. GMI was required to expedite the design for the procurement of all equipments and materials, and for the bid process for the installation contract. It also needed to limit impact to existing operations.
Using Bentley technology, GMI was able to perform the special calculations required for the project. For example, HAMMER performed calculation that allowed GMI to recommend device protections to avoid transient events and assure normal operation. In addition, Bentley AutoPIPE performed piping stress analysis to determine required pipe sizing, supports, and anchors.
