New Features in STAAD.Pro V8i and Build 05

New Features in STAAD.Pro V8i Build 05

STAAD.Pro V8i Build 05 includes six great features added to STAAD.Pro V8i and over 100 updates. The new features include updates to the graphical user interface (GUI), a new analysis method as defined by the AISC, known as direct analysis, and additional steel and concrete design options.

Here are some of the most significant updates:

  • Geometric Non Linear Analysis.
  • IS 800:2007.
  • Eurocode 8.
  • Eurocode 3 National Annexes.
  • Update of AIJ Concrete Design.
  • Enhancement of RC Designer inoperability.

Geometric Non Linear Analysis
The range of analysis options has been supplemented with a new solution to account for nonlinear effects of moderate displacement and small strain. This solution holds for where the element distortion is small and small rotations are assumed.

IS 800:2007
The Indian Bureau of Standards has released a new version of the design code for the design of steel structures, known as IS 800:2007. This replaces the previous version of the code (also supported in STAAD.Pro), IS 800:1984, which was versified again in 1998. This is a new approach to steel design and is based on the limit state design rather than a stress based design of the old code.

The Steel Design section has been enhanced to include design per IS 800:2007. Both section checking and selection routines are supported.

Eurocode 8

Eurocode 8: Part 1 [EN 1998-1-1:2004] contains specific requirements and recommendations for building structures that are to be constructed in seismic regions. Essentially, these fundamental requirements have been provided to ensure that the structures can sustain the seismic loads without collapse and also – where required – avoid suffering unacceptable damage and can continue to function after an exposure to a seismic event.

Eurocode 3 National Annexes

A number of countries that have signed up to replace their current steel design standards with the Eurocode, EN 1993-1-1:2005, known commonly as Eurocode 3, have published their National Annex documents. These documents make small changes to the base document and STAAD.Pro has been updated to incorporate some of these National Annex documents. Currently, the Dutch and Norwegian National Annexes have been added to the STAAD.Pro engine.

Update of AIJ Concrete Design
An old version of Japanese concrete code based on the AIJ standard for structural calculation of Reinforced Concrete Structures (1985 edition) was previously implemented in STAAD.Pro batch mode design. Recently, critical errors in the column design and beam design were discovered and corrected. In addition, the AIJ concrete design has been updated to incorporate the latest AIJ standard for structural calculation of Reinforced Concrete Structures (1991 edition).

Enhancement of RC Designer inoperability
The ability to create physical members in STAAD.Pro has been introduced since the original implementation of the RC Designer. Previously these members did not get carried through into the RC Designer, thus requiring the extra step of re-creating these members, and possible confusion if the same member numbers were not used.

Similarly, load case/combination envelopes were not carried through into the RC Designer, requiring extra care in identifying which load cases were being considered when examining the output.

The physical member definitions are now passed through to the RC Designer along with the other structural data from STAAD.Pro. Envelope definitions are also carried through and examined to see if they contain any dynamic loading for which it may be inappropriate to use the analysis results directly.

New Features in STAAD.Pro V8i

The new release of STAAD.Pro includes ten features added to STAAD.Pro 2007 and over 90 updates. The new features include updates to the graphical user interface (GUI), a new analysis method as defined by the AISC, known as direct analysis, and additional steel and concrete design options.

Here are some of the most significant updates:

General

Integration with Bentley ProjectWise
Working on large projects has been made easier by using the power of ProjectWise to collaborate with colleagues in teams that are becoming more distributed throughout the world. Models can be loaded from and checked out from a ProjectWise repository and checked back in directly into the repository allowing a project to be managed more effectively and efficiently.

CIS/2
STAAD.Pro V8i has expanded the capabilities of engineers who need to transfer structural models using the CIS/2 standard. The STAAD.Pro CIS/2 tool now allows a greater flexibility of transferring models based on international standard profiles including British, European and Australian sections to applications such as SmartPlant 3D.

Analysis and Design

Nuclear Design to the ASME NF Design Codes
The range of design codes supported by STAAD.Pro has been enhanced with the addition of new steel code checking for engineers working on the design and maintenance of the structural support work of nuclear installations. STAAD.Pro has added the design of steel sections according to the requirements in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) specifications, Rules for the Construction of Nuclear Power Plant Components, Section III – Subsection NF.
The design requirements for the following years have been added: 1974, 1977, 1989, and 1998.

Wind Loading to the Russian SNiP 2.01.07-85 “Loads and Actions”
To compliment the certification of STAAD.Pro for use in the Russian Federation, STAAD.Pro has added functionality to allow engineers to automatically calculate the wind loading on structures accounting for both the static and dynamic effects.

The wind loading as defined in the design code SNiP 2.01.07–85 “Loads and Actions” added in this version of STAAD.Pro can be added graphically to the mode in the loads page.

Floor Spectrum
The dynamic design considerations of structures has been enhanced with the additional functionality of extracting response spectra of floors in models such as those subject to seismic activities defined as time history .

The behavior of the floor can be extracted and used in the design of the following.

Post Processing

Enhanced Dynamic Deflection Animation
Evermore detailed data is made available to the engineer working with dynamically loaded models. Now, not only is the maximum deflection and history of a node displayed, but also the deformation of the entire model at a given point in time can be visualized.

Note: Certain features described above require access to appropriate licenses in order to operate.
