BrIM requires emphasis in three key areas: 3D modeling, collaboration, and process innovation.

3D Modeling

The 3D model is central to development of the bridge information model, and can dramatically transform project delivery. 3D information can be the source of fabrication, casting, and construction throughput. 3D modeling is a fundamental building-block in the creation of the bridge asset model—the bridge information model.

Collaboration

Bridge information modeling is first of all about collaboration. This is an area where Bentley solutions today provide an edge for engineering organizations.

Bentley ProjectWise is a collaboration system for connecting people and information across distributed enterprises. It works with the bulk of Bentley solutions and those of many of our industry partners.

42 of the top 50 leaders in the ENR500 use ProjectWise to manage, find, and share asset content—engineering and operations data and documentation—to successfully deliver their infrastructure projects.

Process Innovation

Ultimately, every process—from planning and bridge selection through rehabilitation—participates in the creation and use of this information definition of the bridge asset. Individual bridge practices evolve and even blend as information modeling takes place—providing leeway for sweeping process improvements
