RESUMO

Organization:
Mott MacDonald Ltd

Project Name:
East London Line Project

Award Category:
Civil Visualization and Simulation

Category Description:
Projects use advanced visualization and simulation techniques to virtually involve stakeholders in the planning, design, and operation of civil infrastructure.

This project will connect Highbury and Islington Station on the North London Line with a connection into the Network Rail infrastructure in South London. The East and North London lines are the first two lines to form part of the London Overground franchise. On completion, the total cost of the project will be $2.75 billion.

The modeling process highlighted the complexities of threading a 21st century railway through 19th century infrastructure. From the outset, the visualization enabled by MicroStation served a dual purpose of design tool and design validation to deliver more than just an assessment of signal sighting issues. The infrastructure model is now used as a tool to reach design decisions on aspects of the project ranging from passenger evacuation analysis to interdisciplinary checks and option assessments.
