Port of Long Beach CAD/GIS Project Plan
Long Beach, California
The Port of Long Beach is a department within the city of Long Beach, Calif. The economic impact of the port affects not only the city, but also the entire United States. To improve the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of engineering data as well as ensure the interoperability with GIS, the Port of Long Beach standardized on a common CAD platform and developed a comprehensive standards manual that leveraged this platform.
Bentley's commitment to interoperability was used as a model for the organization’s engineering software developers. Bentley’s integrated CAD, GIS, BIM, and server technologies make the Port of Long Beach more productive and allow its engineers to focus on design rather than technology. The staff can now easily access accurate digital information and the team is confident that it will make the organization more competitive.

O’Hare Modernization Program/City of Chicago
O'Hare Modernization Program
Chicago, Illinois
Seventy-seven million passengers traveled through Chicago’s airport in 2007 to and from destinations around the globe. The O’Hare Modernization Program is Mayor Richard M. Daley’s plan to build a 21st century airport by reconfiguring outdated intersecting runways into a modern parallel runway configuration. The program will create up to 195,000 jobs and generate an additional $18 billion in economic activity annually.
ProjectWise was implemented early on as a document management system to coordinate initial design development among the various design teams. With over 40,000 MicroStation design files to date, ProjectWise has streamlined the coordination of design information between design consultants working on interdependent projects, maintained control over base data, and organized file management for projects without limiting access to project teams.

SR75/282 Transportation Corridor Project
Coronado, California
The SR75/282 Transportation Corridor Project will relieve the regional traffic congestion that occurs within the city of Coronado in San Diego County between the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and the entrance to the Naval Air Station North Island, which is home to two Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers and soon to become home to a third.
The use of Bentley products enabled the project team to develop and share information internally for improved coordination and increased efficiency. Bentley Descartes provided the ability to overlay aerial images under designs. MicroStation with a Google plug-in created a KML file that enabled the draping of the design within Google Earth. The exhibits created with these tools allowed the public to easily visualize impacts created by the designs.
