A completely revised and easy-to-use standalone interface that looks and feels like every other product in the Haestad Methods product line, will make existing users of products such as WaterCAD, WaterGEMS and StormCAD immediately feel comfortable developing transient analysis models in the new HAMMER.

HAMMER uses the Method of Characteristics – the benchmark standard and unquestionably the most rigorous and robust algorithm for hydraulic transient flow analysis with over 20 years of proven real-world implementation. HAMMER’s all-new interface further simplifies the complex science of water hammer and transient analysis by implementing all the productivity and interoperability features that make Haestad Methods products the easiest to use in the industry.

HYDRAULICS

Air valves: Users now have the ability to enter manufacturers’ air flow versus pressure curves for air valves to use in calculations. The data can also be saved to an Engineering Library.

Four quadrant pump curves for an additional 23 pump types have been added built-in.

Improved pump curve display: users can now view head and efficiency curves on the same graph, and also view pump curves from multiple timesteps on the same graph (steady state / EPS solver).

The transient solver has been modified to improve convergence speed on difficult models.

MODEL BUILDING

i-model support enables the sharing of results among a wider audience and clash detection using MicroStation or ProjectWise Navigator (clash detection feature requires additional license)

Formula-based data extensions allow users to create new element properties from existing ones based on formulas.

With seed files, users can save project settings and data as a template.

Selections from user notifications: Modelers can now select network elements and create selection sets based on their associated user notification (warning/error messages).

MODEL MANAGEMENT

Users can now create symbology definitions that store their element symbology preferences for annotation and color coding.

Three new network tracing queries have been added, to trace to the nearest element of a particular type, the nearest upstream element of a particular type, and the nearest downstream element of a particular type.

UPDATED GIS AND CAD INTEROPERABILITY

  • Support for ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 2)
  • Support for MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 2)
  • Support for AutoCAD 2011 (32 bit)
  • Support for ArcGIS 10.0

If you don't have any MicroStation, AutoCAD, or ArcGIS license, you can choose to run HAMMER in its stand-alone platform (no platform requirements).

DXF layer export allows users to export the model on several layers.

UPDATED GIS AND CAD INTEROPERABILITY

  • Support for ProjectWise V8i
  • Support for MicroStation V8i
  • Support for AutoCAD 2009
  • Support for ArcGIS 9.3

If you don't have any MicroStation, AutoCAD, or ArcGIS license, you can choose to run HAMMER in its stand-alone platform (no platform requirements).

IMPROVED MODEL BUILDING

New GIS-ID property can be used for maintaining associations between records in your source file and elements in your model.

ModelBuilder improvements (to create new models or update existing ones from various different data sources)

  • Oracle spatial support for ModelBuilder.
  • Possibility to import part of the data using queries. This allows users to filter the data they need to import without having to change the data in its original format.
  • Automatic creation of selection set with model elements that are either added (updated topology) or which properties are updated (updated properties).
  • Flexibility to choose to update the currently selected scenario or create a new child scenario during the data import process. This allows users to clearly see what properties have been updated when looking at the scenario management table.

EASIER MODEL MANAGEMENT

Demand Control Center and Unit Demand Control Center can now be filtered and sorted by zone; both demand control centers now provide access to statistics.

Isolation valves can now be moved off of their associated pipe in the drawing view; a dashed line represents the association between the elements.

Possibility to easily and quickly create a prototype by right-clicking any element in the drawing view and selecting Create Prototype to make that the prototype for that element.

Small flows such as nodal demands can now be displayed in different units (such as gpd) than large pipe flow (such as gpm).

New Merge Nodes in Close Proximity tool

BETTER HYDRAULIC OPTIONS AND ANALYSIS

Check valve closure/opening time option in transient runs.

Ability to close SAV based on pressure threshold in transient runs (was previously time-based only).

Ability to close air valves based on 'transition pressure.'

Introduction of control valve patterns for steady state/EPS runs.

Support for discharge coefficient versus relative closure for TCVs in steady state/EPS runs.

Tank level alarm support now allows users to define triggers that generate notifications when tank levels rise above or fall below the defined alarms (steady state/EPS runs).

Analysis of the behavior of air valves at high points in steady state/EPS runs

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

Calculation performance improvements.

LoadBuilder performance improvements for nearest-neighbor operations.

ENHANCED DISPLAY OPTIONS

Highlighted link elements (in the drawing view) can now be differentiated both by color and by symbol size.

Accelerated redraw option provides compatibility with a wider range of video cards.

Key new features in HAMMER V8 XM

Transparent compatibility with WaterCAD and WaterGEMS

HAMMER models can now be simply opened with WaterCAD or WaterGEMS (or vice-versa) without an unnecessary conversion or import step. This key advancement represents the highest possible degree of interoperability allowing users to seamlessly share water distribution and transient analysis models.

ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and stand-alone interoperability included

The new HAMMER includes, within a single product, four interoperable environments: ArcGIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation and stand-alone. HAMMER becomes the first transient analysis model with this unique level of interoperability allowing users to work inside their favorite GIS, CAD or stand-alone to build, edit, run, and analyze transient models.

Scenario Management

One of the most popular features of Haestad Methods products is now available in HAMMER. Scenario Management allows users to organize an unlimited number of what-if scenarios in one model file.

Active Topology

Active Topology allows users to specify which parts of a system are active and which are inactive for any particular scenario. For example, this new feature will enable users to analyze multiple transient control measures in a single model file.

Wave Speed Calculator

The wave speed calculator assists users to determine the wave speed in pipelines in the network.

Advanced transient phenomena animation

View dynamic animations of pressure, flow and HGL as the transient pressure wave moves through the system.

Background Layer Support

HAMMER now supports the addition of multiple background layers in a number of formats, such as BMP, JPEG, DXF, Shapefile and TIFF.

Advanced Property-Based Symbology

New color-coding and element sizing features allow users to easily visualize maximum and minimum pressures and HGLs, and maximum air and vapor volumes anywhere along a pipeline.

ModelBuilder

A powerful tool used for creating models from various different data sources (such as spreadsheets, databases, Shapefiles, etc.)

Skelebrator

Skelebrator is a tool for reducing the complexity of a model by removing pipes while preserving the hydraulic behavior of the system

Dynamic Queries

Query input and result data using powerful query statements. Chose from dozens of built-in queries, or create custom queries using the Query Builder.

Network Navigator

Navigate around the model using the Network Navigator tool. Browse through selection sets or elements that meet query criteria, find orphaned nodes, connected/disconnected elements and more.

Selection Sets

Create and save a set of elements that is static or dynamic (updated based on query results). These Selection Sets allow you to predefine a group of elements that you want to manipulate together.

Contours

Create contour plots that show a range of different input and result values.

Named Views

Name and save an unlimited number of 'views' (locations in the model you need to revisit frequently) to facilitate efficient navigation around the model.

Aerial View

Get a birds-eye view of the system so you can stay oriented within the model at all times.

Hyperlinks

Add hyperlinks to any model element which link that element to any number of accessible files (such as documents, spreadsheets, digital images, etc.)

User Data Extensions

Extend the database format to include your own custom data fields. For example, add a field for pipe condition and use the values of that field in queries, color coding, etc.

WaterObjects.NET

WaterObjects.NET is the object model used by HAMMER, which allows for the extension and customization of the core software functions.
