Parsons Brinckerhoff
PB Stays Competitive With Bentley Training

It is imperative that PB constantly look for ways to be more than competitive. The firm looks for ways to be a market differentiator. By continually offering training to its staff, their expertise in using the software before it becomes the norm establishes them as the differentiator.

Founded in 1885, Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) is a leader in the development and operation of infrastructure to meet the needs of communities around the world. The firm provides strategic consulting, planning, engineering, and program and construction management services to both public and private sector clients. PB is active in multiple market sectors, including transportation, power, buildings/facilities, water/wastewater, environmental, and urban/community development. The firm has the capability to see a project through its entire lifecycle, from planning and implementation to operation and maintenance.

Challenges

  • More than 75 U.S. PB offices use Bentley software. There are many Bentley applications  and different versions of these applications  in many of these locations as mandated by clients.
  • Training needed to be distributed consistently among all the offices. Training on CAD software was budgeted and scheduled independently within each local office. As a result, some offices were very well trained, and others were not at the same level.
  • PB lacks the time, staff, and resources to visit each office to provide training.
  • Time and funding to attend outside training can sometimes be difficult to obtain.

Solution

  • PB selected a Bentley training subscription and worked with the company to develop a long-range training plan that would be implemented among all of the PB's offices.
  • PB delivers account-specific training to its offices through live, instructor-led distance learning. This enables users from New York to San Francisco to take the class with staff from other PB offices, creating a unique and effective environment to receive training and foster a kinship with other PB employees. In addition, they overcome an inability to leave the office for an extended period of time.
  • The firm monitors its usage of the various training approaches and uses the data to improve its blended learning plan for the future.

Results

  • The training subscription allows PB to effectively deliver training to its staff anytime,
    anyplace, anywhere.
  • PB’s well trained employees are a competitive differentiator.
  • The training subscription is crucial to preparing PB staff to respond to changing client requirements.
  • Users utilize more Bentley applications, which align with PB’s internal goal to promote work sharing abilities between offices to ultimately benefit clients with faster delivery of projects.
  • Employees are trained in the most effective way possible.
