NDOR Upgrades the Skills of More Than 1,200 in Just
Seven Months
Bentley Institute training materials, along with the expert knowledge of its trainers, allowed NDOR staff to get up to speed faster with the new versions of MicroStation and GEOPAK. They were productive as soon as training was completed.

The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) provides and maintains a safe, reliable, affordable, environmentally compatible, and coordinated statewide transportation system for the movement of people and goods in cooperation with public and private organizations.
Challenges
|
|
- NDOR wanted to take advantage of the productivity gains a MicroStation upgrade offered.
|
Solution
- NDOR undertook a sweeping training initiative for NDOR personnel, its consultants, and the
City of Lincoln. |
- Bentley Institute staff traveled to eight locations in Nebraska to teach 120 classes over a
seven-month period. |
- While the standard Bentley Institute training courses were underway, Bentley staff worked with NDOR staff to create manuals and data sets for nine courses custom-written for NDOR, incorporating the highway agency's workflows into course manuals.
|
- Careful planning enabled NDOR to have the appropriate software available to users when
training began. |
Results
- When the initiative was completed, more than 1,000 NDOR staffers and more than 200 consultants had been trained.
|
- NDOR staff got an opportunity to interact with its consultants, giving both groups the chance to discuss best practices, “tips and tricks,” and how they could improve communication.
|
- Accomplishing the training in a timely manner ensured that users would be productive as soon as they completed training.
|
- NDOR is now using the latest technologies and increasing its production with a shorter on-the-job learning curve.
