Gemeente Haarlem Achieves Significant Savings
With a Bentley Training Subscription
"We have been using Bentley products for many years. The Bentley Institute training gave us the opportunity to take full advantage of the software, and we have seen a continuous improvement in user skills."

Haarlem is a city of 145,000 inhabitants in the Netherlands. It is located on the river Spaarne west of Amsterdam and near the coastal dunes. The city has been the historical center of the tulip bulb-growing district for centuries and bears the nickname “Bloemenstad” (Flower City).
Challenges
- The municipality of Haarlem is a long-time Bentley user and established a MicroStation User Group to help increase its efficiency in the use of Bentley products through the sharing of best practices within the group.
- The user group was searching for a way to increase CAD performance and improve the software skills of MicroStation users.
- The group was planning a MicroStation update and wanted to improve productivity when transitioning users to the new version
Solution
- The employees of the municipality attended scheduled courses at local Bentley facilities.
- Several account-specific courses also were scheduled to focus exclusively on the working standards within the municipality.
- The training subscription was used to exploit advanced MicroStation capabilities, such as 3D modeling and rendering.
Results
- Organization-wide user training created the basis for staff to “speak the same language,” and helped bring everyone up to the same level of expertise in using Bentley’s software.
- Overall savings from the training subscription are derived from higher staff productivity, better standardization of CAD drawings, and less time away from the office for users.
