The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international industry consortium of companies, government agencies, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available interface specifications. Bentley is a Technical Member of the OGC and regularly participates in the organization’s activities and events.
Bentley Geo Web Publisher has implemented the OGC’s Web Map Service (WMS) Specification. WMS supports the creation and display of registered and superimposed views of information that come simultaneously from multiple remote and heterogeneous sources.
The WMS Server is supported in Geo Web Publisher, making it possible for any WMS client to view information published by Geo Web Publisher. The service works by publishing any information available in Geo Web Publisher to WMS clients as raster JPEG or PNG. Geo Web Publisher’s WMS Server supports backdrop transparency and translucency for elements.

Geo Web Publisher also supports WMS clients. This means Geo Web Publisher can integrate information from any WMS compliant server. WMS layers are added to maps published by Geo Web Publisher and a map layer may be a combination of one or more WMS layers. This makes it possible to take advantage of the wealth of information publicly available through WMS servers.
WMS Client and Server support provides for interoperability with other vendor solutions supporting the WMS specification. When client and server software implement WMS, any client can access maps from any server. Any client can combine maps from one or more servers and any client can query information from a map provided by any server. End users can take advantage of software like Geo Web Publisher that is WMS compliant to publish and access geospatial information from many sources and systems.
