As Canada’s sixth largest city, Mississauga provides its citizens with state-of-the-art facilities and programs. Its eCity portal offers residents a service-oriented Web experience. The goal of the eCity portal is to make all major city services available online. The eMaps project, implemented in conjunction with the eCity work plan, provides robust multi-functional interactive online access 24/7 to current and integrated data through a user-friendly browser based interface. This includes very accurate mapping, with historical imagery, topographical, property, and planimetric mapping.
Example services include the “My Neighbourhood” button, which displays all places of interest that would be of importance to city residents around a given address. Using the “My Maps” functionality, users can save the map viewer and layer settings to their eCity user profile. Once saved, “My Maps” entries can be launched either from the eCity portal or directly from the eMaps interface. Neighbourhood Maps allows users to quickly locate neighborhoods, special events and frequently requested locations.
