Synopsis:
Gary Naumick, Senior Director of Engineering for American Water will review the significant challenges facing public and investor-owned water and wastewater utilities toward meeting sustainability of capital investment, people, and the environment.
American Water with operations serving 16.2 million people across 32 states and provinces is the largest water and wastewater utility in North America. Mr. Naumick will describe how one major utility is protecting the public health while responding to the reality of aging workforce and infrastructure against the back-drop of declining energy and water resources.
Presenter's Bio:
Gary Naumick holds the position of Senior Director of Engineering for American Water.
In this capacity, he is responsible for the strategic planning, management, and delivery of American Water’s capital program of over $800 million annually. Mr. Naumick and his team are also responsible for the development of comprehensive asset plans for each of American Water’s 200 plus water systems. Mr. Naumick joined American Water in 1986 as a Senior Planning Engineer. In 1988, he was promoted to Director of Planning. He became American Water’s Director of Capital Program and Asset Planning in 2004. He advanced to his current position in March 2008.
Mr. Naumick has over 30 years of experience in the water utility field. Prior to joining American Water, he was employed by US Environmental Protection Agency Region III for nine years in its drinking water program.
Mr. Naumick has gained recognized national credentials in water utility asset planning. He has participated in policy development with USEPA on Integrated Resource Planning, and the American Water Works Association Research Foundation (AWWARF) on a “Capital Planning Strategy Manual”. He has served as a member of the AWWA Conservation Division Planning, Evaluation and Research Committee. Mr. Naumick serves as a faculty member for the Institute of Public Utilities Regulatory Studies Program. Mr. Naumick has provided expert testimony before Public Utility Commissions in Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and New Jersey.
