Video: A presentation of what's new in SewerGEMS V8i SELECT Series 2
Bentley offers the first and only urban sewer modeling solution with AutoCAD support and ArcGIS, MicroStation, and stand-alone interoperability.
SewerGEMS V8i joins WaterGEMS and HAMMER as the only water resources modeling software to run within AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and MicroStation, or as a stand-alone application, underscoring Bentley’s commitment to interoperability.
“As an engineer I always want to leave as many doors open as possible,” said Jonathan Bedsole, PE, Staff Engineer at Athens Utilities Water Services in Alabama. “When I began looking for a wastewater model, I wanted to be able to integrate a model into AutoCAD and ArcGIS. SewerGEMS met that need as well as adding flexibility with a stand-alone platform.”
Key new features in SewerGEMS V8i SELECTseries 2:
UPDATED CAD INTEROPERABILITY
Improved MicroStation integration
SewerGEMS commands are now available under the MicroStation's tasks dialog for easier access of SewerGEMS functionality. You also have the ability to use QWERTY for layout.
Support for AutoCAD
Run SewerGEMS within AutoCAD 2011 (AutoCAD license required - if you don't have an AutoCAD license, you can choose to run SewerGEMS in its stand-alone mode).
The 08.11.02.75 build supports AutoCAD 2012 (32- and 64-bit).
HYDRAULICS
New long-term simulations are now available in SewerGEMS to estimate overflow occurrences and volume over a whole range of historical data.

Statistics reporting functionality has been added to produce customized reports on long-term simulation statistics (mean precipitation, etc.)
Model treatment plants, hatcheries, and irrigation systems with new conduit properties, including weirs, orifices, and depth-flow curves, are now available in SewerGEMS Sanitary.
Improved pump curves
In SewerGEMS Sanitary, modelers can now display head and efficiency curves for fixed and variable speed pumps. Curves can be animated over time, or curves from multiple time steps can be shown simultaneously.

DATA AND MODEL MANAGEMENT
Formula for user data extension
Extend SewerGEMS' calculation capabilities by defining your own formulas with the User Data Extension fields.

Enhanced scenario comparison
The Scenario Comparison Manager is an excellent way to track scenarios and compare different strategies, especially since differences between scenarios can be subtle.
Modelers can visualize these differences in a detailed table to compare variations in properties from one scenario to another or directly on the network drawing to easily and quickly identify which elements are different between scenarios.
Seed files
Seed files allow you to save project settings and data as a template. You can then reuse these settings/data while creating new projects using the data from the previously saved seed file.

Element property inferencing
Let SewerGEMS interpolate missing data. For example, elevation data may be missing from a manhole or some property may be missing from a pipe. In such cases, SewerGEMS's Element Property Inferencing tool can draw "inferences" about those values from property values from nearby elements.
Selections from user notifications
Select network elements and create selection sets based on their associated user notification (warning/error messages).
RESULTS
Subnetwork color coding
You can now color-code your network by subnetworks.
Enhanced profile creation
Streamline the profile creation process by selecting the start and end nodes of the profile.

ENGINE UPDATE
The new SewerGEMS V8i now installs two individual programs:
- SewerGEMS (dynamic wave solver) for which:
- the SWMM solver has been updated to version 5.0.14
- the Dynamic Wave Solver has been improved (for low flow where the user can now specify virtual depth at which virtual flow calculations occur)
- the new SewerGEMS Sanitary provides the same features as SewerCAD with the added ability to work within the ArcGIS platform. This means that SewerGEMS Sanitary allows engineers to use steady-state analysis with various standard peaking factors and extended-period simulations, as well as the powerful and easy-to-use Automatic Design features.
UPDATED GIS AND CAD INTEROPERABILITY
Support for ArcGIS v9.3: Run SewerGEMS in ArcGIS 9.3 (ArcGIS license required - if you don't have an ArcGIS license, you can choose to run SewerGEMS in its stand-alone mode).
Support for MicroStation V8i: Run SewerGEMS in MicroStation V8i (MicroStation license required - if you don't have an MicroStation license, you can choose to run SewerGEMS in its stand-alone mode).
Support for ProjectWise V8i: Manage SewerGEMS files using the ProjectWise project team collaboration system.
Support for SELECT Server V8i
Support for AutoCAD 2009: Run SewerGEMS in AutoCAD 2009 (AutoCAD license required - if you don't have an AutoCAD license, you can choose to run SewerGEMS in its stand-alone mode).
IMPROVED MODEL BUILDING
Easier model maintenance with the GIS-ID property: The new GIS-ID property can be used for maintaining associations between records in your source file and elements in your model.
ModelBuilder improvements (to create new models or update existing ones from different data sources):
- Oracle Spatial support for ModelBuilder.
- It is possible to import a subset of data using where queries. This allows users to filter the data to import only the information they need, without having to change the data from its original format.
- Automatic creation of selection sets containing model elements that were either added or updated.
- Update the currently selected scenario or create a new child scenario during the data import process. Using a child scenario allows you to see the changes that were made by ModelBuilder during the last model-build operation.
EASIER MODEL MANAGEMENT
Easily and quickly create a prototype for a new element by right-clicking any element in the drawing view and selecting the ‘Create Prototype’ menu option.
New Merge Nodes in Close Proximity tool to automatically merge duplicate nodes and reconnect conduits.
It is now possible to import/export SewerGEMS' submodels.
INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
You can now export the results to Google Earth when using the MicroStation and ArcGIS platforms.
ENHANCED DISPLAY OPTIONS
Highlighted link elements (in the drawing view) can now be differentiated both by color and by symbol size.
Accelerated redraw option provides compatibility with a wider range of video cards.

Key new features in SewerGEMS V8 XM Edition:
SewerGEMS V8 XM extends every element of functionality across all the included platforms at no additional cost to Bentley SELECT subscribers. Modelers that prefer stand-alone, AutoCAD, or MicroStation platforms, for example, can now benefit from the LoadBuilder and Thiessen Polygon Generator modules, previously available only through the ArcGIS platform.
Likewise, GIS users can now exercise total control over engineering units directly within ArcGIS’ attribute tables, using the same FlexTables technology found in the easy-to-use stand-alone platform.
SewerGEMS V8 XM features new Sanitary Load and Inflow Control Centers, providing centralized management for sanitary loading, RDII inflow, stormwater flows, and conduit infiltration. SewerGEMS users can now add, delete, and modify any type of inflow using standard or advanced SQL-type queries.
A new Time Series Field Data importer allows users to enter observed field data and compare it with calculated results for
calibration purposes. Users can quickly evaluate model accuracy by comparing calculated results side by side with those observed in the field.
Other new features in SewerGEMS V8 XM Edition include E-Q-T graphs for structures, culvert roadway overtopping, pond infiltration, and an updated SWMM numerical engine.
