Powerful, Extensible GIS for the World's Infrastructure

Ventajas

All the Power of MicroStation

Bentley Map V8i takes full advantage of MicroStation’s 2D and 3D design productivity innovations to create and maintain spatial data. Smart, quick drawing and editing of GIS features has never been easier. Features such as AccuDraw for dynamic control and input and AccuSnap for intelligent and interactive snapping are available in Bentley Map when creating geospatial objects.  You also have MicroStation’s dimensioning, raster management, printing, publishing, and much more.

Bentley Map V8i leverages the MicroStation display subsystem, which is powered by Microsoft’s DirectX graphics, enabling capabilities such as element transparency, PANTONE and RAL Color Systems, and photorealistic visualizations and animations. MicroStation’s 3D capabilities are fully available in Bentley Map V8i, allowing you to design and map infrastructure in a way that more closely resembles the real-world assets being modeled.

What's New in Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries1)

Map Manager

An intuitive Map Manager simplifies the display and query of large amounts of complex spatial information, whether in raster or vector formats. The Map Manager takes advantage of MicroStation V8i's new display capabilities, including display ordering and transparency. Users can easily create custom maps in a WYSIWYG environment and map definitions can be saved at any time for later recall, editing, analysis, or plotting.

XML Feature Modeling

Bentley Map V8i takes full advantage of the XML Feature Modeling (XFM) environment. Using the Geospatial Administrator, XFM lets users and developers create highly interactive graphic applications without programming. XFM applications help users maintain standards by encapsulating them with the feature definition and placement tools, including property-based annotation and symbology. The XFM model also defines data sources and indexes for fast and seamless access to spatial data, regardless of format. Bentley Map includes tools to recognize data as intelligent features and promote simple geometries to intelligent features with full attribution.

Oracle Spatial Editing

Oracle Spatial is fast becoming the standard method for organizations to store and manage very large volumes of spatial data. Bentley Map V8i can edit data directly in any standard Oracle Spatial environment employing a feature locking mechanism for multi-user environments. Organizations can also take advantage of Oracle versioning to manage conflicts in an extract, edit, and post to Oracle Spatial workflow enabled by the Bentley Geospatial Server. It's straightforward for Bentley Map to maintain the topological relationships that may have been defined and stored in the Oracle Spatial database because Bentley Map uses the native Oracle Spatial topology model.

Topology Model and Maintenance

Topology can be created on the fly or on demand in Bentley Map V8i. Topological relationships are stored in the DGN file according to the same model employed by Oracle Spatial. This allows complex analysis operations to occur quickly and maintains compatibility with Oracle Spatial for organizations that choose to use Bentley Map V8i as an editing application for Oracle Spatial. Easy-to-use tools split and merge polygons for simple maintenance of polygonal data sets.

Spatial Analysis and Presentation

Bentley Map V8i includes a full suite of spatial analysis and presentation capabilities. These include tools for creating buffers around objects, performing topology overlays, creating thematic maps, labeling, and more. The results of these analytical processes can be browsed, reported, plotted, printed, or published to PDF.

Map Generation and Print Preparation

With Bentley Map V8i, you can interactively place map and multipage sheet borders and automatically populate their fields with metadata. Automatic grid and graticule generation and support for a variety of marginalia are included in Bentley Map V8i. Bentley Map V8i also allows users to take advantage of all the high-fidelity printing and publishing capabilities of MicroStation, including publishing to intelligent 2D or 3D PDF. Bentley Map users can also take advantage of ProjectWise Interplot for additional plotting and publishing capabilities, including centralized production and archiving.

3D City GIS

Bentley Map helps cities model their urban environments in full 3D. Bentley Map leverages MicroStation’s 3D tools to build complex 3D models of existing or proposed buildings. Attributes of these buildings can be associated with each model for further analysis. Models can be managed in design files or stored and maintained in Oracle Spatial. A 3D urban model provides many benefits to a city, including massing studies, shadow studies, noise analysis, disaster recovery planning, line of sight studies, and others.

Interoperability

Bentley Map V8i includes new tools to improve interoperability with other GIS formats. Directly reference ESRI SHP files, MapInfo TAB files, Oracle Spatial, ODBC, WMS, and others or export your data into these formats for sharing with other groups on your project team.

The interoperability tools include a unique interface for defining import and export processes. Easily import single files or entire folders of data. The data is automatically projected into the coordinate system defined for your current map. Your project and mapping data can also be exported into these formats using the same tool with full support of attribute data and projection.  Bentley Map can be combined with FME Desktop to support additional data formats.  The integration is supported using Bentley Map's FME Extension and FME Desktop from Safe Software.

GIS Development Platform

Bentley Map V8i is a robust development platform for GIS applications, particularly those that must address the challenging needs of infrastructure. It was designed with a remarkable degree of flexibility and configurability so that subject matter experts can customize it via the Geospatial Administrator without writing code.

Property-based symbology and annotation, criteria, methods, operations, dialogs, tool frames and tool boxes, prompts, and more can be configured through an interactive GUI that offers a wealth of options. You can also add to the capabilities provided by Geospatial Administrator by using C expressions, XSLT, and VBScript when customizing annotation and other areas. The capabilities of the standard placement library can be extended even further with VBA, MDL, and a .NET API.
