AssetWise: Work and Maintenance Management Support

Supporting Enterprise Asset Management With Enhanced Tracking and Analysis

Many enterprises have implemented asset management systems that cover operations and maintenance areas. Though these systems may function as expected, they, in general, are not designed to manage a closed-loop change process encompassing change agents such as plant modifications, engineering service requests, and corrective actions.

It’s important that all affected information, including requirements, systems, components, documents, processes, functions, people, and organizations, be taken into account when planning and managing engineering changes to assets and asset information. This ensures that decisions are made within the context of the entire information ecology as it pertains to the affected plant areas. Changes must be managed in an auditable manner that tracks change processes, change history, notification, distribution, and approval.

The AssetWise platform includes eB products that can support an existing asset management system to provide a closed-loop change process for managing the ever-changing infrastructure environment. Working seamlessly together, eB and the existing system can bridge the gap between the engineering and design environment and the operations and maintenance aspects of a plant. For example, eB can maintain the integrity of the master equipment list and related documents and provide the existing system with the necessary and accurate information to perform maintenance/repairs. It accomplishes the latter by generating comprehensive engineering design change and associated work packages aligned with approved plant modifications, corrective actions, or engineering service requests. Once scheduled work is complete, the existing asset management system can provide the detail of the implemented change to eB to close the loop on the modification package, engineering service request, or corrective action and record the event. This recording ensures the plant configuration remains consistent with design engineering and, as such, compliant with its operating license.

Using the meta-data snapshot capability and associated message queue capability, eB allows for a software-agnostic solution in passing data to downstream systems. Data to be consumed by work management systems is distributed in XML format to a predefined destination, based on customer preference. This XML snapshot is then available to work management or any other downstream system.

Upstream integration or incoming data is handled either asynchronously using eB's message queue capability or synchronously by allowing upstream systems to tailor their integration requirements using eB's powerful API toolkit.

In this way, all relevant interdependent information in the system is linked and identified when changes are proposed, providing a thorough effects analysis report. Built-in configuration management principals ensure status accounting on all changing asset information throughout the maintenance and operations lifecycle.
