Baltimore Gas & Electric Company (BGE) invested $37 million and five years in developing an enterprise-class geospatial data repository and associated applications. The system supports a wide range of corporate business processes and Bentley products play a significant role in the benefits achieved.

The BGE GIS and Bentley projects ultimately converted more than 9,500 gas maps, 14,000 electric maps, 900,000 MicroStation® drawings, and associated databases for use in the new CAD/GIS application. This amounted to about 15 million pieces of data with 120 million attribute fields. The GIS project team also developed 34 specialized applications for such functions as facilities design and pipe risk analysis. Projected estimates for average annual savings related to the gas system applications alone total $4 million per year.
