The public utility company of Bremen, Germany, supplies electricity, water, gas, and district heating to more than 540,000 customers. In the 1990s, swb had incomplete documentation of its networks consisting of CAD files, paper maps, and other data sources, distributed over the company. To provide prompt information about utility equipment and its location, swb chose sisNET as its GIS.
The project consists of capturing all information about the utility networks, including analog maps. The first step was scanning more than 7,500 electrical network maps and 6,000 gas and water maps with MicroStation Descartes, georeferencing them, and managing them with ProjectWise. Ultimately, the cost of responding to requests for information will be reduced from half a day to one hour.
