The key objectives for the technical components of the European Spatial Data Infrastructure that will be built on the top of the National Spatial Data Infrastructures established and operated by EU Member States. The technical challenges and difficulties in building INSPIRE as a system of systems will be highlighted as well as the link between INSPIRE and international geospatial standardization initiatives.
