How to Connect
Newsreader
Add our news server to your news reader. Popular readers include Outlook Express, Opera, and Agent. Check your reader's documentation for information on how to add a discussion group server, and connect to news://discussion.bentley.com/. Then you can subscribe to any of the public Bentley discussion groups. (If you have previously subscribed to any of the Bentley discussion groups, you may need to resubscribe to or relist the server to see new discussion groups. If you are running Windows 2000 and are not able to connect to the discussion group server, you need the proxy client installed.)
Web Browser
Access Bentley Discussion Groups through your Web browser here: http://discussion.bentley.com/.
Known Issues (Web Interface):
- New discussion groups will always appear at the bottom of the group list in the left-hand page, because they appear in the order in which they were added.
- If your name contains a ( or ) character, it will not display properly in the "From" fields when you post a new article or reply to an existing article.
- The text formatting in some articles appears to ignore carriage return/line feeds.
- Any post in HTML format will display twice: once in plain text format and again in HTML format.
- Embedded images and attachments to posts will display at the end of the post (for embedded images, it will appear that the image is missing, but it actually displays in a different location).
- Currently, you cannot collapse or expand threads.
- Columns cannot be resized or sorted.
- When you select an article to display in the lower-right pane, that article will remain in that pane until you select another article or close your Web browser and re-open it.
- If you post a new article or reply to an existing article, you will need to enter your name and E-mail address each time (one option to consider is Google's Toolbar, which provides an AutoFill capability to fill in forms with one click).
- Searching by date has a resolution of 24 hours, so posts may sometimes appear up to a day out-of-order due to time zone differences.
